Advantages Of Septic Systems

At Greg Mitchell Plumbing, we offer several several services to clients in the Queensland area. Whether you need help with blocked drains, gas fitting, roof repairs, rainwater tanks or sewerage treatment testing, we’re here to help. Another service that we offer is septic tank installation, repairs and replacement. Many people cringe when they hear the word “septic tank.” They conjure up images of smelly tanks full of waste, but that shouldn't be the case. Did you know that septic systems can be better options than public sewer systems? Here are several septic tank advantages:

They’re environmentally friendly

Many people know how much havoc sewer systems wreck on the environment. Did you know that harsh chemicals are used to pump the water in sewer systems? When the sewer water is this filtered into bodies of water like rivers and the ocean, these chemicals enter the water along with the sewage. Concerns have been raised over the effects of this chemical-laden water on the lives of aquatic animals and plants.

Septic tanks, on the other hand, can pump and treat water without the need for any chemicals or excessive energy. The water used is then returned to the aquifer, which is nearly impossible to cause to overflow if maintained.

They’re affordable

Contrary to popular belief, septic systems cost much less than sewer systems. When you use a sewer system, you need to pay hefty fees dictated by your local government for your water usage. However, costs to install and maintain a septic tank are a fraction of this price. Why? Because the only costs associated with septic tank is its pumping costs, which only need to be paid every 3-5 years when the tank needs to be pumped.

They’re easy to maintain

Many people have the misconception that septic tanks come with a lot of maintenance work. That couldn’t be further from the truth! The most maintenance a septic tank will need is a pumping every 3 or so years. They also rarely break, especially if they’re made out of cement, so they rarely need to be replaced. Besides, if you live in a more rural area, connecting to a sewer system will undoubtedly require more work than acquiring a septic tank.

Despite the negative stereotypes that many people associate with septic tanks, septic systems have several clear advantages over public sewer systems. They provide an affordable, environmentally friendly and easily attainable way to manage waste. However, many of us are conditioned to prefer public sewer systems because it’s all we’ve ever known and because there are plentiful stereotypes about septic systems. Don’t believe the lies! Not only are there several advantages to septic tanks, but they’re also easy to install and maintain.
